Bare Necessities: The Minimal Jewellery Trend at the Golden Globes

I just had to share my thoughts on the recent Golden Globes and the one thing that stood out to me - the lack of jewellery on the red carpet. As a fashion blogger, I can't help but have opinions, and trust me, I have plenty when it comes to awards show fashion. While I do love to see all the winners of the awards, I have to admit, my favourite part is always the red carpet. And let's be real, there's nothing quite like sitting on your couch in your comfy pyjamas, devouring a tub of Ben and Jerry's, and scrutinizing every single outfit that comes on screen.

After the shitshow that’s been the last few years, I was very excited for a dose of red-carpet glitz and glamour. while there were plenty of gowns and sparkles, one thing caught my eye, the jewellery, or lack thereof. I have to say, I was a bit disappointed to see so many stars opting for minimal, almost unnoticeable jewellery. I mean, normally I expect to see spectacular and jaw-dropping jewels that are wheeled out specifically for the evening, complete with a matching security guard not far behind like the kind that the Oceans 8 ladies were attempting to steal. And while stars like Rihanna and Lily James did deliver in terms of enormous and eye-catching diamonds, many of those on the red carpet chose to go for something much more low-key.

So, what's the deal? Has jewellery fallen out of fashion? Are necks now the new statement piece? I've seen conversations swirling around the internet for a few weeks now about jewellery falling out of fashion, and if the Golden Globes were any indicator, it would seem as though bare necklines are now in style.

But why? Perhaps the collarbone is the new necklace, the new masterpiece to focus our attention on. A large topic of conversation within fashion and beauty last year was the so-called return of skinny. like how Kim k lost 16 pounds in weeks for the met gala, maybe that’s why celebs are ditching their necklaces, to show off skinny collarbones.

As we all know, fashion has always been a reflection of the world and the economy. Maybe the shunning of jewellery is a reaction to the cost-of-living crisis where subtlety feels more appropriate than anything too bling. Large diamond baubles hanging around one's neck can come across as somewhat opulent and extravagant, and their disappearance may be a reflection of the state of the current world plunged in war, recession and soaring prices.
